One of David’s children, Sarah Barlow always wanted to join the family firm and duly did in 1991 after obtaining her degree from the University of Birmingham, so carrying on the Barlow tradition.
In 2002, when Sarah had been working at Barlow’s in Oldham with David for ten years, the opportunity arose to buy the well-established local Diggle funeral director, Pogson and Armitage.
Barlow’s believed that Pogson and Armitage would be an excellent addition to the business, as the same high standards of customer care and service were apparent at Pogson and Armitage. Pogson and Armitage have been based in Diggle since 1922, serving customers in the Saddleworth villages, where both David and Sarah live.
The premises at Diggle were renovated, with the former joiners’ workshop above the chapel of rest being converted to a house for Sarah, her husband and their two small children.
Sarah Barlow now splits her time between the businesses in Oldham and Saddleworth, supported by the rest of the superb team, most of whom have worked in the business for many years. Customers are free to use either of the offices or chapels of rest, as is convenient.
